I know what you mean, Unity. I used to feel the same, but tbh I don't give it a thought now. After all, what's the alternative? I don't like 'unemployed' as that suggests that I am looking for work, which I'm not.
Some forms offer 'home-maker' ... but if you saw the state of my house, you'd realise why that isn't apprpriate either...:o
So I go for retired. I used to struggle even more when people asked me what I do [for a living], as I felt so embarassed to admit I'm not working (my injuries are due to a car accident, but on a good day are not immediately obvious to the casual observer). I used to feel the need to justify why I'm not working. Nowadays I just reply 'as little as possible' .... and leave them to draw whatever conclusions they wish....;)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

That was always my problem too. I can't work as the 'accident' (and that's a euphemism) has caused all sorts of problems including neurological, due to compression.zzzLazyDaisy wrote: »Some forms offer 'home-maker' ... but if you saw the state of my house, you'd realise why that isn't apprpriate either...:o
Fear not! You are in good company;), just remember - dull women have tidy houses :rotfl:. Now someone is just bound to take me to task on that:rolleyes: - so I'll say straight away, no offence intended :cheesy:.zzzLazyDaisy wrote: »So I go for retired. I love it :rotfl:. When people ask me what do you do? I often say 'I contemplate clouds' and that leaves them wondering too;).Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

shame the co-op don't have a 'contemplating clouds' option :rotfl:0 -
do you reckon if i go back on smile and apply again putting in retired they will cross reference my older application? I kinda wanted to do smile because they are a bit safer at the moment and have ethical investment0

Can't say for sure about Smile, but I think they will cross reference your previous application (20+ years ago I worked in a bank and they always did -but things have changed alot since then!).
The other thing about putting "retired" is your age - if you're 50+ shouldn't have any problems, but you might do if you're younger. If you're younger & there's no other suitable option I'd go for the home-maker type one (which I see Smile does offer).0 -

Well, there's nothing to stop you from trying is there?;) If you get a knock back then you're no worse off really and if they query it, you can say you made a mistake. The other thing about putting "retired" is your age - if you're 50+ shouldn't have any problems, but you might do if you're younger. I agree with this - you may well have problems if you are under 50 - but it's worth a try - plus you could try querying the decision with them.
Good luck , I hope you are able to sort something out. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever
