Will my insurance be affected

Options
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me. Last week someone crashed into the back of my car after I had to slam my brakes on. There's not much damage and the car is still driveable.

The question is this - If I claim on my insurance (fully comp with protected no claims) will next years premium be different in any way shape or form.

The alternative is to go through the other persons insurance losing her the no claims she has built up.

Many thanks in advance

Jazzy

Why should you worry about the other person's no claims, she was at fault. It doesn't matter that you had to slam your brakes on, she should not have been so close and as she was at the rear, it is her fault entirely.

Although you have protected no claims, you cannot be sure your premium base will not rise and with most companies, you are only allowed a fixed number of accidents in a fixed space of time to retain your protection. If you claim off your own insurers this will be a strike against your allowance.

You can claim off your insurers and they will claim the costs back without it affecting your no claims. Or you can simply deal direct with the other driver's insurers but you still have to report the accident to your own.
