EDF claiming a foul by British Gas ?
I ran a price comparison 3 weeks ago after the advice on the site. British Gas came out top - with an annual saving of £250 so I started the ball rolling to switch over from EDF.
I got a call this morning from EDF advising me that within the last week, British Gas have since raised thier prices on their "click 5" tariff I opted for and this tariff will now be considerably more expensive than sticking with EDF. They inferred that British Gas would not inform me of this change until AFTER the switch over date.
Is this true or is this simply a sales tactic to keep me on as an EDF customer?
I have tried running another comparison today, using the same figures as 3 weeks ago but British Gas still appear to be cheaper.

Thanks for that.
I used energyhelpline.com to run the comparison. I've since taken the bull by the horns and questioned this directly with British Gas.
They confirm that there has very recently been a price increase on the "Click 5" tariff and they have since introduced "Click 6" tariff (which has the same £250 annual saving) BUT they say as I have not yet switched, I should be started on the new cheaper tariff.
Probably, well worth bearing in mind though...0 -
Bg Click 5 is not available for new customers(thank goodness) as it is more expensive than Click 6.
Anyone on Click 5 should move to Click 6, unless they are intending to switch supplier on receipt of notification of the Click 5 increase.0 -
I really hope that Ofgem are true to their word and investigate this sort of practice. It's cynical and dodgy IMO. Here's the scenario for BG: Increase your standard tariff (most of the people on this tariff are clearly too apathetic to switch to a cheaper tariff so no worries here for the balance sheet). But here's the plan: Leave our cheaper online tariff (Click 5) at the old rates so as to pull all the punters in on the switching sites. Let them all bed in nicely, then increase the Click 5 tariff by a HUGE amount. Simultaneously launch Click 6 with cheaper tariff to get to the top of the switching site's best buy league. Leave existing Click 5 punters on the old (far more expensive than Click 6) rate to help fund the whole exrecise. It's brilliant, isn't it?
IT HAS TO BE STOPPED!!!!!!!!Call me Carmine....
