Hello,
I had a landland installed by The Post Office (they arranged for BT openreach to come out an install the line) 6 weeks ago. I was given my phone number and showed that it worked by the engineer. Since then i tried to buy the Tiscali Internet and line rental package. After 3 weeks, i had not heard anything from them, so i phoned to see what was going on.
I was told that because I didnt have a BT line, they couldn't set me up. I decided to cancle with them, as they had no intention of telling me any of this. and i found there customer service appalling. Anyway, i phoned the Post office, who couldnt confirm if the telephone number they had given me, was actually for my line or not. At this point i had tried ringing the number, it rings when you call it, but when you plug a phone in to the line nothing happens.
I have been informed by several internet providers, that my phone number is registered as a cable, not BT Line. I cant even get cable in my area. After 1 1/2 hours on the phone yesterday, i was told to phone back the post office today before 6pm so they could contact openreach to sort out the problem with them.
I am now confused on two points, if i cant get cable, how do i have a cable line and have been given the wrong telephone number? But either way my line doesnt appear to work, so i cant test to see if i have the right number.
Has this ever happened to anyone before? What do you think the likely outcome might be? I am due to start working from home on Monday! Argh!

Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

so who do you actually have service with at the moment? becasue you use the phone for work you didnt tell the sp this when ordering as they may have set u up with a business account, tried pressing 9 for an outside line?
confirm your sp by phoning them as the order placed with tiscalli may have messed things up. your sp will be able to give you a line testover the phone.0 -
This sounds similar to the problem I had. BT assigned the wrong number to the phone line.
On BT you can dial 17070 and it will tell you the circuit is defined as "your phone number". At the time I didn't know what number I was getting so I wasn't any wiser until the engineer came out and discovered it.
Until the engineer comes out they will be completely confused about whats going on.
Although you could try pressing 9 also lol0
