Bradford & Bingley 7% (2 year) for £50K+

Haven't seen this one mentioned here, but after thinking about ICICI and Anglo Irish went for this one as has a monthly interest option and in my opinion I have more confidence in this then the other 2 as the government is already involved, just my view.

they also got a 3 year one.

IMO anyone would be crazy to invest more than £50k in one banking group.

Agree that's why I put in exactly £50K

Fixing IMHO is definately the way to go. Economists are forecasting interest rates to drop as low as 3.5% by next summer, Not sure though that I personally would go for more than 1 yr fix

No room to earn interest if they go under (which they won't).

Unless the government makes up the difference (which they will!).
  • I've just checked this - you could get the interest fed to another account, so the initial capital amount would never rise above the magic £50k?

    Regards, John

True but I happy to take that risk as long as the capital is 100% secure

Makes absolute sense John - then at worst you miss out on 31 days.

The British banking system currently looks safer than USA or Europe to me.

Very true, I have done that on some of my accounts. You do loose out on a bit but that's ok.

Silentfox, what term did you go for. I'm tempted by the 3 year but it wont be 50k, so the rate will be 6.75%. I havent seen any better deals in the UK over the longer term.

    Two questions.

    1. Is there absolutely no way to get your money out if you need it?
    2. B&B wasnt nationalised was it, wasnt it sold to a Spanish bank. Is there any info on how secure the group is.
