Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but perhaps you can solve a family disagreement? We need a new doorbell and were looking at one of those where you plug in the base unit. Our disagreement is,would this constantly use electricity or only when the bell rings?

Yes it would constantly use a small amount of electricity, as the base unit would have to always be receiving, regardless of if the transmitter (bell push) only used power when activated. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

What espresso said. The power consumption should be detailed on the box and on the base unit. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
