Am looking at buying my first property a 2 bedroom flat.
The problem is - it isnt in great condition.
At the minimum the kitchen needs a complete refit and all rooms need redecorating - i.e. floors/walls etc.
All rooms are around 14 x 12 2 bedrooms, lounge, hallway, kitchen.
Anyone done wsoemthign similar - ballpark idea of cost?

i fitted a new kitchen and bathroom my self into a studio flat a few years ago
i ordered both from homebase who help you with the design, i got the cheapest i could find as i was only doing it to sell, both came to a total of 916 which i then got a 20% discount on for using a voucher. I had to add the cost of the oven and hob on top too.
Not sure on the cost to get it fitted, but as for the painting and stuff do it your self, if you !!!!!! it up youve wasted probably £40 on paint, but its not hard so give it ago
My other top tip would be to do it while your not living there, so much easier that way0 -
Painting is definitely something to do yourself.
fitting bathrooms and kitchens probably isn't unless you've done stuff like that before. Mind you apart from the electrics, plumbing and tiling there are very few difficult things to do. If the worktop requires cutting that can be a pain but putting together all the units is simple.0 -
i can only suggest you try listing what you want to do for each room and then put an estimate against each item, also allowing for some contingency ie replacing skirting boards, replacing small area of plaster etc
ie bedroom 1
woodwork - undercoat, gloss, sandpaper, pollyfilla
walls - emulsion or wallpaper + paste or lining paper + paste + emulsion
ceilings - emulsion
floors - carpet + underlay + gripper rods + fitting
etc
if you stick with white ceilings and woodwork, then the cost of paint for one room could be shared with others.
obviously the kitchen/bathroom will require different type of emulsion (ie paint for kitchen/bathrooms - because of moisture)smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
