Income Support

CAB had advised me to claim Income Support straight away once my resigned from my employee end tomorrow because I cannot claim JSA (for 6 months) because of resigned from the job and take £5,000 tax-free lump resignation offer from my employee to me by letter.

CAB told me I will be allowed to claim Income Support because I got the following reason:

1) I had a child living with me (aged 8)
2) I am a lone parent
3) Living in a council house
4) I also had disability living allowance for my disabled deafness for lifetime
5) Also a saving of under £6,000

Can you tell me if my CAB is 100% right about this?. Because CAB say I will getting £50.54 a week for child tax credit, £18.80 a week for child benefit, £44.85 a week for disability living allowance (middle rate care) and income support of £136.70 a week (including disability premium allowance) and don't need to pay any council tax or housing rent and a saving of £5,000 in my bank from my resignation job offer to me. I am entitled to £1003.56 per month of all those income from benefits to live on.

I am not surprise myself how on earth they can award me £1003.56 per month on benefits entitlement even it more than my work wage as I work 40 hours a week on double shift and I only take home £970 a month after tax, insurance and pension and still paying £404 a month on council housing rent and £69 a month on council tax bill. I made a profit of £500.56 per month to live on with benefits without working. I thought myself "what the point of going to work in the first place?".

I can't answer your eligibilty question or wether your actual figures are correct, but certainly it is often said on here that some people on benefits are better off than those working at the lower range of salaries.Wasn't your salary boosted by WTC though,as that often makes a huge difference.

And you'd have got DLA on top of your wages.

Yes I got working tax credit of £272 a month but it will end tomorrow on my last day of my employee due to my resignation and compromise agreement between the company I work for 14 years and myself as the employee with solicitor to finally the agreement of resignation with £5,000 tax free lump payout plus my final salary and p45.

I had rang up WTC helpdesk as they advise me to ring back tomorrow after my employee had ended to updated on their system.

I had ring up income support explaining of why I resign to take care of my daughter full times and got too much distressful illness and pressure from my job because I am a lone parent. They say to me ok, it sound as you need income support and incapacity benefit to claim it but you have to ring back on monday as it was your 1st day of unemployment.
