[Car Insurance] No Claims Question

Hi,
How do I work out my no claims, is it as simple as the duration I have not claimed?
The problem I have is that I have no paper evidence that I have never made a claim but surely it must be logged on some database otherwise people could say whatever they wanted. The other problem is that I have had different insurers every year i have renewed.
Anyway my question is am i entitled to no claims discount or is the best i can hope for 1 year from my current insurer.
Ps. All policies have been under my own name and have never claimed in 4 years of driving (age 23 now)
Thanks in advance

It should be that number but you will need proof.
You need your renewal notice and it will be on there. They come through about 2-3 weeks before renewal.
This is what your new insurer will want to see.The problem I have is that I have no paper evidence that I have never made a claim but surely it must be logged on some database otherwise people could say whatever they wanted.
You cannot say whatever you want because most insurers want to see the ORIGINAL renewal notice (copies won't do).Anyway my question is am i entitled to no claims discount or is the best i can hope for 1 year from my current insurer.
If you have thrown away your paperwork and started this year with zero then your renewal notice should say 1.
Please KEEP it this time.
Surely you must have somewhere in your house where you can keep a small amount of paperwork safe? It's not taking up much room.0 -
thanks for the reply,
I have been keeping my paperwork but only my most recent insurer has sent me renewal papers, the rest were all done over the phone. Surely when I sign up they have to check if i'm telling the truth about my claim/accident/convictions - would this check not also show that i have never claimed?0 -
So what does the most recent one say about your NCB entitlement?I have been keeping my paperwork but only my most recent insurer has sent me renewal papers
It's cummulative so you should only need the last one.
e.g. if the last one says you have 4 years NCB then you don't need the ones that say you have 1,2 & 3.Surely when I sign up they have to check if i'm telling the truth about my claim/accident/convictions
I don't think you can assume that.
But they will check your NCB from the ORIGINAL renewal notice you send in.
You are making huge assumptions here.would this check not also show that i have never claimed?
People do make mistakes and some people lie but it can catch you out when you come to claim.
I don't think they check up front as a matter of course and I certainly don't think you should make massive assumptions about how the system works.
They will check you NCB entitlement and most do this by asking for the renewal notice from your previous insurer.
If you have this then that's fine.0 -
Even if you do not have paperwork for previous renewal, if you call up your previous insurer and ask they should be able to provide you a letter stating that you had a policy from so and so date and did not make a claim.
I once carelessely lost my renewal notice and my new insurer after I took the policy wanted proof of NCB. When I called my previous insurer they were quite happy to provide a letter with required detail.
it is very important to have proof of NCB since if you needed to make a claim the insurer would want to see that, and a lack of it could invalidate your policy.0
