Where should I buy my Christmas cake?? (merged threads)

Where should I buy my Christmas cake? I almost bought one in Tesco's yesterday ( benefits - can use tokens! Also- spend a lot of time there anyway) but hesitated as I almost bought a tinned one, but wondered if it was any better than the non tinned ones? Then I thought of Lidl, but think they only do continental stuff- lovely but i need a BIG WHITE CAKE. :D
I am not going to make one.
:o
Any advice?

On This Morning (last week) they voted Tesco's Organic Christmas cake the best out of Asda , M&S and Aldi. They raved about it, it's not tinned.

I think it was about £11.99 - but not too sure.

    HTH
    How much ?????????!!!

Icelands used to be voted the best year after year. They are very yummy and a good price. Alternatively why don't you buy a fruit cake and ice it yourself with ready made marizpan and icing. Much cheaper normally,.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

One of the womens mags has voted Aldi's as the best tasting as best value. I think it's about 1.8 Kg and costs about £6
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

    F U Fund currently at £250
  • I think Tesco's value one is nice & it's less than £3

*fingers in my ears I'm not listening* ;) but ...
make one, make one, MAKE ONE! You will not regret it and it will be so much more special, and moister, tastier, natural etc etc. Search the old style board for the vegan xmas cake recipe (i'm not a vegan but the cake's great) it's only once a year...
Failing that get a stollen from LIdl or a pannetone from lidl or tk maxx, what's wrong with continental? If you do get a shop bought cake I would urge you to get an uniced one and douse it with alcohol a few times before xmas, and make icing or get the ready to roll stuff. Pop on a few old plastic santas, snowmen, holly leaves etc to recreate the homemade feel!

I got mine from Aldi last year and I've bought another for this year, about £6.99

I vote for Iceland as well, bought their xmas cakes for a few years now
  • I'm feeling very smug now as I won a Christmas cake today at my sons school xmas bazaar on the 'guess the weight of the cake' stall ( it's the first thing I've ever won mind you!)

Sarahsaver you must have sensed my deep longing to make a cake after all. Maybe that is why I hesitated!!? If I can find a big enough cake tin in my cupboard ( please don't tell me about a bargain one- give me at least that get out)- if the recipe is reasonable economical- if I don't fall asleep on the sofa tomorrow afternoon- I may delve into the old-style board...
    Thanks for the advice :T
