Another slow PC...

Options
Hi there

It's me again!

Our "other" PC could also do with being quicker.

It's an Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz with 512MB RAM, a 55.9GB C drive (42.3GB free) and a 72.0GB D drive (56.4GB free) running XP SP3.

I guess I need to invest in more memory. Have run the scanner - either a 1GB 2700 or a 512MB 2700. Presumably deleting any of these from start-up wouldn't harm?!?

As ever, any help/advice would be welcomed but be warned I'm not a techie!!!

Thanks

I would recommened 1 gig RAM or more (512 WILL be slow)

    Download CCLEANER (untick yahoo toolbar)
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
Run CLEANER and REGISTRY (top 2)

    Download MALWAREBYTES
    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html
    UPDATE and QUICK SCAN

Download and run DEFRAGGLER (defrags drives)
    http://www.defraggler.com/

steve, it looks like more of the same as on your other thread - begin by disabling the ones on this pc as you were advised on the other thread....see how that goes and report back !!

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

It looks as if you have two AntiVirus solutions running. Remove one.

    Thanks for replies.

The only anti-virus program I'm running is Post Office Netintelligence/Kapersky.

Have disabled a number of programs and that seems to have helped somewhat. I didn't even recognise a lot of the programs on the list!

Re: memory, presumably it's ok to have the original 256MB in one slot and 1GB in another?
