Hi
im having some major problems i was on the net when my AVG anti virus went mad telling me trojans were coming from all sides and spyware in places i thought only dust could go.
Afetr a long battle healing or removing the files i ran both my AVG and SPYBOT S&D they both found problem then fixed them or so i thought but on my desk top is reads

Spyware detected on my computer.
What can i do i only have AVG and Spybot S&D i thought this would be ok?

"on my desk top is reads Spyware detected on my computer."

do you mean a popup by a program, if so which one..
, or do you mean that your desktop background has changed?

Have you done a windows update recently?
ad-aware from lavasoft is one of the top spyware scanners, as is microsoft anti-spyware (if you have XP).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Im still running on win98 1st edition im needing to upgrade as im getting broadband but that another question once i've sorted this out.
my entire background has changed i did have a pic of my son but now i have a black and yellow screen saying SPYWARE DETECTED

not sure if i can run a windows update as this computer was my dads so he may well have used the same windows disk on both computers. then again he may not have

I still use 98, on broadband, you don't have to upgrade, it works fine..

Try the update, nothing ventured, nothing gained..

have you tried just changing your desktop background back to what it was?

No one scanner picks up everything, so I suggest trying ad-aware as well. Is avg upto date?

no because i asumed that once all viruses have done all would be the same.
    this not the case??

Ive been told by my soon to be broadband supplier it will only work on win98 2nd edition not the 1st?

before yu upgrade to xp ask your self 2do I really need to?" and will your pc be up to it?
I cant say for sure but spy bot ( or any sensible program come to that) wouldt change your desk top it would give you a propper warning. It is possible that this desktop chane is advertising related ( or suchlike) trying to lure you to there product hoping you will buy it in order to get rid of the mess it created. Like I say dont take this as an answer it is just a thought.

My guess is that the 98SE info is either incorrect, or because of a driver issue for your usb broadband modem (The way drivers were written changed from 98SE onwards, so sometimes these new WDM drivers don't work on 98..) I know that a speedtouch modem does work on 98, cos I've tried it..

If you can afford it, I would recommend buying a router (e.g. Netgear DG834 - £50), instead of using the free modem from your supplier. It has a built in hardware firewall which gives you a good level of protection from hackers, but you will need a network card (ethernet) in your PC to use it..

You've never said whether you have a firewall ?

    If not, try this one

download ad-aware from www.lavasoft.com and run that as well, it will pick things up that spybot may miss, also try running them in safe mode (hit the F8 key several times as the PC is starting up before windows kicks in, you will get a menu asking which mode you want to run in) as only a minimal version of windows is loaded and its easier to remove spyware/viruses

I suspect it may be "Winfixer2005" on the PC
