Is economy 7 worth it?

Basically my Mum has just moved house and phoned British Gas to inform them of meter readings etc to which point they offered putting a economy 7 meter in. Will they charge to install it?
My Mum has moved to a 2 bedroomed house and lives on her own. She has kept her price fix 'til 2010 with British gas but will the economy 7 be beneficial for her? Many thanks :-)

You need to check unit rates but generally, E7 offers cheap night time electricity but the daytime rate is higher. That's why it works with storage heaters - they use a lot of electricity and they charge up overnight so the savings more than compensate for the higher daytime cost.

Without storage heaters, it's unlikely to be a moneysaver.
