I live in britain which uses the PAL television system, and the dvd disc I want to buy is in the american ntsc system but the disc is region 0 which means it will play in any region, but will a ntsc disc work on a PAL video and play on a PAL television, if it will what will the quality of the playback be, will it be dvd quality or will it have a reduced quality due to it being played on a diferent regions eqipment, its an old tv series that I want to watch and its not available in britain.

The vast majority of UK DVD players will play NTSC discs, and unless your TV is verging on the antique, it will almost certainly display a NTSC picture. If it's a Region 0 disc, then region encoding isn't an issue.
So....it's extremely unlikely you'll have a problem playing it on your existing equipment, and picture quality will be near as dammit the same as a PAL dvd.
If you let us know the make/model of your TV and DVD player, we should be able to give you a definitive answer.0 -

your above answer was very helpful, I thought that I would need a NTSC - PAL signal converter or something like that to watch a NTSC signal on a PAL television system
my television is a SANYO 32 inch widescreen, model number - CE32WN3-B.
and my video is an ASDA own brand one, its a DURABRAND dvd player / video cassette recorder combi player, model number - PDV5001.
any futher help you could give me would be appreciated.0 -

In answer to that ~ no it wont. The tv AND dvd player MUST be ABLE to play NTSC (most modern tvs do, and most dvd players does (Not ALL though)
Do the instruction manuals not say?:idea:0 -
Well ive had a quick look, but im unable to find out for sure. Sorry.
Maybe you could borrow a disc off someone to test it?:idea:0 -
Yeah, I can't get full information on either the TV or DVD.
If I were in your shoes I'd just buy the disc anyway, the chances of it not working are VERY low indeed, especially as neither your TV or DVD are absolutely ancient.
If your PC has a DVD drive, then it should work on that, too.0 -
The manual for the TV is here:
http://www.sanyo.co.uk/download/295464.pdf
This is version 1 of the TV, howver both are NTSC compatable, so you should be able to watch the disc.0 -

I managed to find the manual for my vcr/dvd combo player and on one page it says
the country region code for this DVD player is region "2"
the player will only play discs that are labelled "2" or "ALL"
which means that the region 0 disk would work in it but then on the back page in specifications it says
signal type - PAL COLOUR
it doesn't mention anything about accepting NTSC signals so I guess that answers my question, although my tv would play a NTSC signal my dvd player won't play one
well thanks for your advice and help everyone it was appreciated, and at least I know now that the NTSC disk wont work untill I get a new dvd player.0
