Hi Everyone, usually I give out techie advice but I'm desperate now!!
Well, I have 2 systems linked up with a Crossover Cable. PC 1 has the Broadband Connection via USB. PC 2 connects via PC 1 - PC 1 has some proxy software on it for internet access (Since PC 2 is an older system!).
So I can access the internet okay etc. I can ping PC 2 from PC 1, but cannot Ping PC 1 from PC 2! My problem is, is that I USED to share files (Til I upgraded Security Software) between the two systems, but since PC 1 cannot be pinged by PC 2, then there seems to be a connectivity issue.
I have Norton Internet Security 2005. What port does Windows use to connect to other folders? I have excluded PC 2's IP from the block list, so it should be able to access everything!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Matt.

Apart from a block list, does the firewall have an 'allow' list? Perhaps they have to be in there. I know that is the case on my network with ZoneAlarm.
Have you checked that the computers LAN IP has not been forced to change for some reason?
You don't accidently have two firewalls running do you? for example XP's and Nortons?0 -
Thanks for the prompt reply.
XP Firewall is off for sure. The Second PC is on the allow list, and the IP is Manually Configured.
It's so annoying! I configured it before, just can't remember how to do it now! If only Norton could save the Configuration files when upgrading!!

I'm not really sure what else to suggest other than both PC's being on eachothers 'allow' lists as that is all mine requires a long with being on the same network name.
If everything was fine before and all that has changed is the software then I'd assume it was that, but I've never used Norton so I'm not familiar with how to set it up. Sorry.

Well I leave the other System without a firewall, simply because it's not necessary..
Since all traffic flows through PC 1, which is HIGH on security, then nothing can go wrong with PC 2, right?0 -
port 139? try tcpview from sysinternals.com, it will tell you what ports are being accessed in realtime, or netstat -anEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
