MFI - Should I hand over the cash?

I have ordered a kitchen a month ago from MFI and paid a 25% deposit. The balance is due to be paid by saturday and I have read some rather worrying reports over MFI's status. Any thoughts on wether I should hand over the balance of 1000 quid, or would it be best to just forget the deposit (I presume there is no way of getting that back).
Any input appreciated - thanks

I read and heard that it had been bought out by the management.
If you pay the balance with a credit card you will be okay

Your CC will only cover the single items over £100 I believe. So I'm not sure you will be 'fully' covered. If your receipt says door at £90, wall unit at £110, then although you need both to make the cabinet you'd only be covered for the wall unit.
  • Can't pay their rent to companies too.
Looks like they are on the road to administration again.

I wouldn't pay for the kitchen and loose your money if you can't pay buy credit or Visa debit card.

hmmm, doesnt sound good, have read my local MFI is closing down, if BT are cutting them off as well then it would be pretty hard to get in touch to pay them anyway. Never thought to check the financial status of MFI when I first ordered, them having been around since year dot. What a bummer

I purchased a car on behalf of a friend.I payed £1 on credit card ,the rest on debit card to avoid credit card charges from the dealer, but to give full section 75 protection. As long as the total spend is over £100 you can do this.

IIRC it's by purchase, rather than items, and even then they will often go further than the strict letter of the law requires.

I know when we paid for carpets from Courts and they went bust before delivery we were fully reimbursed by Barclaycard for the total amount.

It may be worth checking the T&C of the card issuer, but always pay for anything you can't walk out the store with (or with a high value) by credit card - it offers so much more protection than cash, debit card or cheque.
