How long to buy shares?

This morning i took a punt on HBOS shares, Ipurchased 500 at 8.20am and the Halifax share dealing then removed £473 from my account. I then went to work thinking I had purchased the shares for under a £1 each.
When i got home from work I found that the shares were purchased at 9.44 am at £1.23 a share removing over £600 from my account.
Is it usual for share deals to happen an hour and a half later?

I wanted to do this as well as the stock was bound to rebound given yesterday's extreme falls (ok easy to say that now but i did think it quite likely). Unfortunately I haven't got a share dealing account. hopefully someone else can confirm whether it's usual for such a lag to occur as it has obviously taken away a lot of your profit, especially once you take share dealing costs into account (i'd sell now by the way as I can see more downside than upside risk, but that's just my opinion.) such a big lag takes away the scope for any tactical short-term moves unless volatility is as extreme as some financial stocks at the mo. At least you still made some profit

Negotiated trade is delayed, their system is pretty crap tbh. If its busy then you just get whatever price and time they decide. They also let you see live quotes for a measly 15 seconds but its often broken0

All of the profit went as the shares ended £1.17 Having said that I looked at it as a cheaper way of getting Lloyds -TSB shares, fingers crossed.0

Apparently a lot of brokers are very busy at the moment with the number of trades that are being made.:rotfl:0
