Halifax Student account - overdraft expires early...?

Hi

From the Crappyfax website:
"With our student bank account, you can keep your interest-free overdraft for the length of your course - that's up to five years - plus an extra year after you graduate."

From the letter I received today:
Overdraft Application
I am writing to tell you that your current overdraft limit (It's £1000 btw) ends on 28th October 2008.

I graduated in July of this year. July 2008 + 1 year does not = October 2008.

Any opinions?

Ring them or go in the branch and tell them they've made a mistake.
  • Did you repeat a year at all or swap courses? If you did it could be possible that they had your original graduation date as summer 2007.

Perhaps this is date the overdraft is being reviewed rather than the date your account stops being a student account.

I would take written confirmation of the date you graduated into the branch with you as if it is due to change to a normal current account it can't be amended back to a student account without this.

Even though it is a student account it is still subject to status and they can remove the overdraft facility at any time if there are lots of charges, no regular funding etc etc

If the branch can't help you could always phone up before the 28th and ask to reduce the overdraft by £50 or so and they might put it on again for a few months and the lower amount giving you extra time to pay it back.

    Hope this helps

i had a letter like that this time last year. did you get a form to apply for a new overdraft limit? i went into branch and she said they'd already sorted it and just to carry on as normal. its basically just an overdraft review.
