IPOD not showing up in Itunes? FIX!

For a while now my Ipod hasn't been recongnised in Itunes, but has been showing up as a removable drive in My Computer.
I tried all the help pages on the apple website and various forum posts but to no avail!
I'm a teacher and our IT technician has found a fix that has worked for 3 different members of staff
Right click my computer, go to manage.
Click Device Manager
Scroll down click USB controllers
Double click each 'USB Root Hub' in turn and select power management. Uncheck the box. Repeat for Next USB Hub.
Load Itunes and attach IPod.:j
