sky+ box fan

turned the power off to the box,then turned bk on,,sounds like the cooling fan of something inside is running continously for bout 1hr now,,is this normal

now pulled the power lead,reconected..good news is the fan has stopped but bad news is now cant urn the box on,,its just sitting there with the red standby light on...

try turning the box off for about a minute and then turn it on but don't turn on to the green light yet i would give it another minute to reset and then try again if that don't work try doing a update on the box by doing this
1 turn box of at wall
2 hold backup on the box not (REMOTE)
3 keep holding backup and turn the box on and wait till all the lights on the box power up then let go
4 once its done it will reset the box
5 leave it in standby for about a minute then try again

I believe the fan is meant to be on most of the time when the hard drive is in use no matter what state the box is in. If you have the box switched off but recording something then the fan should be on to keep the HDD cool.

The answer to the original point is its your hard disk drive. This runs continually whilst the box is on. It does this so you can pause and rewind live TV, aside from the recording features.
