Want a job in H&M...

I never thought about money woes when I got EMA last year, but at the moment what with all the problems I haven't had a reply from EMA. With retake fees hitting the roof I feel I need a job, not just for money but also to write something under employment for my UCAS application. I want to get a job in H&M in Oxford Circus, I went last Sunday and it looks quite good not to mention the bargains. I am free on most weekends.
If this isn't a good idea, please tell me and any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Pay will be poor. Fashion shops = poor pay.
However yes, discounts woo.0 -
Working in retail is a good way to make some extra money but it isn't always the most pleasant of jobs! Speaking from 2 years of part time experience
In my case they also weren't very understanding about needing time off for exams etc...
However I didn't work in H&M and I hear they pay quite well for a high street store. Someone I knew earned over £6 an hour while I was on £5.50.0 -
Be prepared that you probably will need to apply to a whole bunch of places if you want a job. Consider how easy it will be for you to get there and what the transport fees will be.
As far as UCAS is concerned the employment thing isn't that important. Provided you do something apart from go to school, like being in sporting clubs or other structured hobbies that will be fine. It's more about showing your skills and qualities. It doesn't matter whether you get paid for them or not.0 -
i wouldn't pin all your hopes on getting a job in one specific store of one chain of shops.... be prepared to apply for a few, especially if you don't have any retail experience. but other than that, sounds like a good plan!:happyhear0

If you really need a job you will need to apply to a lot of places. Jobs in retail can be quite hard to come by, especially at this time of year when students will have filled the gaps from summer staff.0

Try M&S they pay very good.
Also dont put up for your age minimum wage (which is £4 something for under 21?) you will always be able to get a job that at least pays the 21 minimum wage, and if you cant find anything higher you really havn't been looking.0 -
What type of course are you applying for? Retail might be related, if so go for it, but if it's science, sport, art.. something else.. why not try to get some work experience in your area? I always think placements look amazing on cvs.
I don't know much about the EMA thing, but surely the money will come through eventually?0 -
I worked at Topshop for just over a year, left last summer and I was on not much over minimum wage basically! I have tried to get a weekend job at H&M (I already work full time) and they wont even interview me!
I hated dealing with rude customers anyway! And it was horrible when it was busy. 0
