Hi

I have built web page in dreamweaver, registered domain in 1&1, and registered hosting to jamroll. I have changed the settings in 1&1 to those of jamroll. I used the access details on the email from jamroll confiming my hosting account with jamroll. On dreamweaver - I put the control panel address for the host directory - is this right?

when I highlight the files and upload, I keep getting the error message - ftp error 530.

I am on wanadoo broadband

A 530 error, means incorrect login, so you may have put in the Username or Password wrong, or more probably the ftp address.

I don't think it will be the control panel address. I am unfamiliar with dreamweaver but, Try just a / (forward slash) as the host directory. Your FTP address will be something like one of these

    ftp://ftp.domain.com/
    ftp://ftp.somename.jamroll.com/
    ftp://123.45.678.90/

These details should be in the jamroll e-mail.
  • Hi

Tried all of those and still no luck.

  • In Dreamweaver, your FTP host will be ftp.yourdomain.com (without the ftp:// at the start) and the Host directory will be public_html/

Login and Password will be the same as your Jamroll control panel login and pwd.

Enter all these details and click Test on the Dreamweaver Site Definition screen.

Try http://www.smartftp.com/ to upload the pages to the httpdocs folder not httpsdocs.

there is a free bit of software called filezilla that is a very good FTP program

download that and try uploading using that instead

remember that passwords and user-ids may be case sensitive

  • Hi

    It says

a ftp error occurred - cannot make contection to host. 530 athentication failed, sorry

I thought that would be able to upload files from dreamweaver without downloading more programmes.

  • As mentioned before, that error means your username and/or password is incorrect.

You can upload files using Dreamweaver, in fact it is far better than a normal ftp program because it can synchronise your local files and remote files by just uploading/downloading the files that have changed. Perservere because you'll have the same authentication problem whichever program you use.
  • Hi

    Thanks chippy_minton, I'll keep trying
