Land Registry - how do I prevent the price being publicly available

Hi
I was wondering if there was a way to NOT show the price of the property on the Land Registry. I am sure someone told me you can instruct your solicitor to keep this confidential (so the price is only used for stamp duty purposes). As I am in the process of buying a property, I would very much like to keep the price private.
Who wants nosey people finding out what you paid for a property?
Anyone know?
Thanks

I'm willing to be corrected, but I don't think it's got anything to do with your solicitor. It's public information. So I don't think you can hide it, no....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

there are forms EX1 and EX1A which you can apply for the land registry to make any filing with them an "exempt document", so that it is not publically available information.
i believe you have to be able to demonstrate that it would be prejudicial to a public interest for the application to be successful, so i don't like your chances.
not sure whether you personally used it, but land registry data is useful for you when you are looking at what price to pay for a property so it cuts both ways.
neverdespairgirl: it is a filing you could get your solicitor to handle (i have seen it done with a lease on commercial property held by a public sector organisation).0 -
are you embarrassed by your purchase price? It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Apparently if you buy a repo, the price doesnt show up on the LR, does anyone know why that is?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0

Is that so? - our house was a repo but i just assumed transactions did'nt go back that far (1995)0 -
Also if you buy a shared ownership property the figure shown on the LR is just the amount of money that changed hands, and as there is no easy way of finding out what proportion of the property that is, it is pretty meaningless.
Is it just me or is this site running extremely slow tonight?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

First I heard of this, so I'm a bit sceptical. You may be right, of course. Any chance of a reference to confirm one way or the other? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I'm pretty sure he's right - I'll dig it out later....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
