It's just a link to the official statement from the Treasury saying they'll guarantee all money, are suing to get it back etc.

The lack of info from Icesave itself is pretty darn disgraceful. Even this treasury statement was made around 5 hours ago! I guess the staff are worried about their jobs though, they're probably feeling much the same way we all were yesterday.

I'm glad someone has stopped to consider the jobs at stake. Iceland staff will face an uncertain few days. Those at KE and Heritable likewise. We should reflect that these people 'did nothing wrong' either.

Agreed. When a country and its financial regime goes bad, a lot of innocent people get caught up in the repercussions through no particular fault of their own.

The past 48 hours has revealed an Icelandic economy and government that is both financially and morally bankrupt. It may not be a large population, but I imagine they will all be hanging their heads in shame right now ... or possibly just laughing at the fraud they just pulled off.

One thing is certain, Iceland will be regarded as the pariah of the financial world for a long time to come, and certainly in the lifetimes of those who were duped.

Totally agree, please see my thread earlier where I posted my thoughts on the unbelievable SCAM it appears both Icesave and the Icelandic government tried to pull off! Interested to hear anyone elses thoughts on it.

Have to say I largely agree with your thoughts - not sure they deliberately set out to scam us but I find it utterly abhorent that the MD can make false claims about the bank's strength only hours before it's demise. This to me is fraud.

I also don't like the way that they're seemingly using the UK's deposits to fund the continued survival of the domestic bank.

I think the FSA will look long and hard at foreign banks' operations in the UK after this debacle.
