espresso wrote:Let me put it another way, why do you think that Norton Anti-virus is causing this problem
Assuming that you have not got another anti-virus program installed on your machine, which could be causing a conflict (Norton needs to be totally removed before installing another anti-virus program) it could be many things.
I suggest that you read though this thread as there is a lot of spherical objects talked about Norton anti-virus causing problems!

Norton Removal Tool descriptionDownload
SymNRT is a program that can remove some Norton software from your computer. SymNRT runs on Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
SymNRT should be used only if you have tried to uninstall the Norton program using Windows Add/Remove Programs and that did not work.
SymNRT will remove these--and only these--Norton programs:
· Norton AntiVirus 2004/2005
· Norton AntiVirus Professional 2004
· Norton AntiVirus 3, 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005
· Norton SystemWorks 2004/2004 Professional Edition
· Norton SystemWorks 2005/2005 Premier edition
· Norton Password Manager 2004
· Norton Internet Security 2004/2005
· Norton Internet Security 5 and 10 User Pack 2004/2005
· Norton Personal Firewall 2004/2005
· Norton AntiSpam 2004/2005
· Ghost 2003 or Ghost Version 9.00 -

Browntoa has given you the right tool to remove it if you want to.
I guess you could always reinstall it (if you must) but don't go online without protection.
If you decide to remove Norton you should install a replacement antivirus and firewall before removal then fire them both up immediately Norton is gone.
I suggest antivirus from AVG here......
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
and the Zonealarm firewall here......
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
(note....before you download ZA it will scan the PC to check all is in order)
If you want to investigate a little deeper before doing anything else the other thing I can suggest is that you run a HijackThis scan. HJT doesn't actually "interact" with anything on your PC to make changes. It simply makes lists of running processes and run keys in your registry. It can reveal things some scanners can't find or fix. Once it reveals something bad THEN HJT can be used to fix it.
Let me know if you want to do this and I'll walk you through it.
Best of luck. Do let us know how you get on.0 -
try the help bit from Nortons that i just posted, full instructions on how to remove all versions there

NO ON BOTH COUNTS.
Antivirus - you should NEVER have more than one AV operating at any one time. They will conflict with each other and cause problems. They may even cancel each other out leaving you with no AV at all. This may be part of the trouble you have.
For the time being, make sure AVG is fully updated with the latest definitions and use that one. Disable Norton for the time being.
Firewall - You MUST have a robust firewall. Use a good free one but not the Windows firewall. I suggest Zonealarm here...
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp
(note.....Zonelabs will offer to scan your PC before you download. Allow this.)
Don't forget to disable the Windows firewall immediately ZA is in place.
Make these changes and let us know if things improve for you.
As to HJT you can go through this procedure if you still have trouble. We can use this ongoing thread to work through it. First, let's see what happens after you have implimented my advice here.0 -
