AOL worst experience of my life!

OMG! i had ordered the free laptop deal from aol with the carphone warehouse, never recieved a laptop or router. turned out when i called that the address they had was for a woman with the same name as me who lives in Devon, im 0141 and live in Glasgow!! evertime I phoned them they told me they could not verify my info as I was giving them the wrong address, how could I be giving them the wrong address, my number is 0141 a Glasgow area code!!! Obvioulsy the 5 people i spoke to didnt know this as they were all from india! Anyway a woman from devon with the same name as me phoned my number and told me she had recieved letters form aol and the carphone warehouse with her address and my phone number! She had been to the police cause she thought it was identity fraud. Again i phoned AOL and they just werent getting what i was saying, they kept saying the address i was giving them was wrong and they couldnt take my call any further. this has honestly been the most frustrating thing I have delt with. I have never had a computer yet im stuck with AOL broadband! last week i bought a laptop and tried to sign up with bt, only to be told aol had a hold on my line. I phoned 3 times before slamming down the phone in tears because of the attitude and the total ignorance of the staff at aol. Today i have phoned them again and demanded to speak to a supervisor after agin being told i could not have my MAC code. she eventually gave in and says she will email it to my AOL account aaarrgggg! I dont have 1!!!! anyway shes going to send it to my hotmail address within 5 working days...... im at my witts end! sorry for ranting

This doesn't suprise me, AOHell have terrible customer service. I can't remember what my problem was, but they have a standard troubleshooting e-mail with tips to follow that they send out & despite me having tried everything they kept sending this e-mail, even when I said please don't send me that AGAIN. I hope you get the MAC code!0

Best thing to do is put it all down in a letter , if you have had contact with the other lady then why not just give her address when you phone up ?0

Regarding the mac code, get the name and /or staff number of the people you speak to.Tell them they legally have to give you the mac code within 5 days.If not received report them to offcom, get the mac code then cancel.0

I was with AOL for 10 years till they were taken over by Cr*phonewarehouse. After takeover my broadband went from bad to worse. Speeds slow, cvontinual disconnects. Eventually was getting speeds slower than the 33.3bps modem I had when I started with internet access. I was lucky that I was not in contract so could excape fairly easily, except they wouldn't give me my mac. I ended up complaining to OFCOM and had a very speedy reply after that, complete with mac code and a 2 months rebate. The rebate never arrived but I was just so relieved to be out of it and couldn't bear the trauma of fighting with their Indian call centre any more.
Document all you have, send a complaint to OFCOM. AOHell legally must provide your MAC within 5 working days. YOu have not been supplied with the equipment you contracted for and they cannot make you pay for it. Please do this as speedily as possible to avoid their underhand tactics of then trying to claim you are outwith your trial period
I feel sorry for the people who have been sucked into the AOL laptop offer because it will be 2 years of frustration and post probably if you have continual issues and want to nchange suppliers they will ask for the remainder of the contract to be bought out and reimbursed for the laptop0
