Disconnection of electricity by a landlord is harassment, which is (in England and Wales at least) a criminal offence, so you can report it to the police and obtain a crime number.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Susan - start a new thread for yourself... this one started 2 years ago
Owain - i suggest you re read the OP - this is a purchased property not a LL .....
OP - i suggest you get back to your conveyancing solicitor - as the vendor (farmer) has lied on his fixtures and fittings info.. this is a clear and obvious fraud on his part to make you believe that the supply was "normal"
i also think you might need the help of a litigation solicitor as the supply of electricity to your property may depend on clauses in any lease involved in your purchase.. i dont think this is going to be a short affair.....0 -

I bought my cottage from them back in June 1999, not realising that it was a private supply, stated as "Mains" on estate agents details and on the replies from solicitor. Farmer has been very lapse in billing, only 7 in 10 years, never with a copy of their supplier's bill until last one. We queried their method of billing, not in line with Ofgem. Farmer will not accept that we are domestic, states that as they are commerical we have to pay CCL and VAT at 17.5%. Also we have been accused of tampering with meter. We reset the clock time, separate dial. So now they have cut us off and now refuse to re connect us or grant a wayleave to enable us to connect to National Grid.
We have tried Consumer Direct/Ofgem, only deal with the public suppliers. Have tried a mediation service but they are not interested.
Does any one know anything else we can try, do not have the money to go to court. Are there are laws referring to our situation of being cut off?
Thanks for reading, this is my first posting, so I apologise if this isn't as good as other ones.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thanks, but farmer isn't our landlord. We bought the property from her.0
