I hate my job

Is there no way you can do the second job, full time?
Other than that I feel I must say you're in a very fortunate position really. With the economy in the state it's currently in - you have two jobs which pay nearly 40k in total.
I think you're tired. You're tired of working all of those hours. Do you have holiday entitlement in your first job? Perhaps you could take a few days off to re-evaluate your circumstances. Aside from anything else you could burn yourself out if you continue without break and that's no good for anyone.
If you can continue as you are, I think you'll benefit from it and look back when the debts are paid with a sigh of relief that you managed to accomplish what you did. Don't forget though - health is more important. If you can soldier on and keep healthy, keep doing it. If it's telling on you, then you need to be honest with yourself and change those hours somehow. No chocolate, cosmetics or clothes to be bought before xmas day 14! ~ NPower eBay target £541.670 -

Totally agree. I admire your plan but never put your health at risk. Think how little you'd worry about your debt if you discovered you'd developed a stress-related illness.0 -
I feel your pain, I have my part-time job with such a passion, they bully me, make me feel like an idiot..
I'm hoping to quit since my uni are giving me bursaries and I might get more money from the government, I'm a full-time uni student.
Could you not wait until after xmas? Then start looking? The job market is very poor at the mo.Debt Then 06.07 - £11,000 - Debt Now £0.00

Please don't let hem bully you. Even if it is only a few hours that you work you have a legal right not to be bullied or harrassed.
You should go to your line manager and tell him/her how you feel and they are legally obliged to do something about it.
If you are hoping to leave your job anyway this is the time to stand up for your rights and protect others in a simlar situation.
Have the company got a Bullying and Harrassment Policy?
Please please do something about it.0 -
Ok, thanks for all the replies - let's see if I can answer all the questions:
- First job is working in an office. I love the people, I just don't like the way the company is run, the stress and the low pay. Second job is delivering pizzas. It's local, everyone is great, but the pay isn't amazing. It's not too bad on a busy night, and is definitely a massive help with the debts. It's not hard work, but it's the finishing at 12.30 at night, not getting to bed until 1am, then having to be up at 6 to get to my main job for 8 that's hard. i finish my main job at 4.30, then have half an hour to do a 45 minute drive to my second job.
- If I quit my main job (around £250 a week take home pay) to do my second job full time (around £150 a week) I'd be getting into more debt rather than paying off my existing debts.
- My university qualification is a HND in music technology. It's something I love but it's so hard to get into. It's a case of 'it's not what you know, it's who you know' - and there's a lot of working for free/work experience ect to get to know people.
- As far as holidays are concerned, I have a week off in October (starting 20th, back on 28th) for the run up to (and including) my daughter's birthday. Which I am really looking forward to - it's been a long time coming. A couple of days off in November also, then 2 weeks booked off over xmas to relax.
- the 2 jobs don't pay 40k. After tax, I take home around 17.5k, which I think is equivalent to around 24k before tax if I was just doing one job? Correct me if I'm wrong. But yeah, while the economy is a mess I'm sticking all my spare money into debts, so (hopefully) when it gets better I'll be able to buy a house etc and actually live my life rather than existing just to work.
Thanks again for all the replies.

I think there has been lots of great advice on this thread!
I'm not surprised you're shattered Dave, working all those hours. But, as you say you've got some holiday coming up, hopefully you can rest and relax during that time and things will seem more manageable.
I think 'jacks xxx' advice about breaking the months ahead into shorter chunks of time is good. You could tell yourself that you'll keep doing the two jobs until the end of the year (ok, it's 3.5 months off, but you've got 3+ weeks holiday in that time), then review how you feel. Hopefully, by then, you'll have a chunk of your debt paid off and you can weigh up whether the burden of the outstanding debt is more or less than the burden of working the two jobs for a few more months (maybe until Easter?) then review your situation again.
Part-time jobs that will fit in with a main job are not easy to come by so don't give it up too hastily, you may regret it.
From what you've said about your two different jobs, it sounds like you are more of a 'people person' and working in the office isn't really the best environment for you. Maybe, once you feel your debt is at a manageable level you could look around for a new full-time job that you will feel happier doing.
I don't like my job, but there are things I want to do that I need the money for (travelling mainly) and I want to do this more than I don't like the job IYSWIM. When I'm having a bad day I remind myself the reasons why I'm doing it, it helps alot!
Finally, I think it's admirable that you've taken on the second job and are trying to pay off your debts, not just sitting around moaning about them. But, as others have said, if it starts to affect your health, or your family, you need to evaluate if its really worth it.
It might not seem like it when you are in debt (I know, I've been there) but there really ARE more important things in life than money.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Hi!

From what you've said, you're obviously working far too many hours, when do you get to eat? It looks more like two full-time jobs to me. Please be careful because this is your health and its far more important than any debt xxxNo chocolate, cosmetics or clothes to be bought before xmas day 14! ~ NPower eBay target £541.670 -
I get to my masin job for 7.30 in the morning which gives me half hour to eat breakfast before I start. Then I snack through the day. Eat a proper lunch, although small portions (I cook once a month with some sauces and rice and frozen chicken from Aldi and freeze it all in tubs so I have a healthy microwave meal every day. It's very convenient and I find that my lunches cost me around £10-£15 a month in work) Then I eat a sandwhich or 2 while I'm driving to my second job, and get a free pizza at the end of the night to kill my hunger.
Then it's back to the morning to do it all over again. This is WAY more fun than monopoly.0 -
That does seem a punishing schedule hon, (It's waaay worse than mine!!! ) but the only thing I can think of to suggest is to search for a better paid second job as 7.5 hours per night, 7 nights per week for £150 a week is well below minimum wage.
I do four or five days a week at my day job and three or four nights a week at my second, babysitting is just watching someone else's telly most of the time innit?, and I fit in eBay, the as and when job and mystery shopping in the gaps!
It usually works out that I have at least one or two days a week when I still have loads to do but I'm not actually "going to work" which helps.

Jacks, I don't think Skitz works every night of the week in the same way as he doesn't work every day of the week. If he did, his hours would add up to much more than 70 hours per week.0
