A local one man solicitor such as mine charged £40 for a basic will. Unless there are loads of beneficiaries, a basic one might do.

My parents paid £500 for their joint wills which have turned out to be pointless, in fact we haven't processed mum's since she died last year.

I'd like to thank all members who offered opinions/advice. Sadly my mother died on Monday so the matter is in the hands of her solicitor.

Dear Kate, so sorry to hear that. My condolences.

I know it's a difficult time, but you may find folks try to take advantage of that.

My parents both died over a year ago now, and solicitor involved has been less than helpful. Not to mention incorrect in advice when asked a straight question. :(

We were green when my parents died (within 7 weeks of each other, so 2 funerals to sort out in short length of time) so just went along with what their solicitor (unfortunately named as an executer along with my husband) told us to do - "give me all the papers and I'll deal with it." Except he didn't and we are now having to use a different solicitor to deal with HIM! We think we are finally getting things sorted out. We sure hope so!

Please accept my sincere condolences again - I only share my experience in hope it may help you. If it causes you grief I am very sorry.
