MOT at Nationwide Autocentre

Thanks all for your support. My car passed the MOT with some minor fault on one of the wiper blades! And surprise, surprise-there was no mention of shock absorbers! The total cost with the replacement wiper blade came to £60.62 with the MOT test fee at £53.10.
Just for your information, I took the car to Sutton Road Garage N10 (020 8883 0970). The bloke there was very friendly and I explained what'd happened with Nationwide. He told me that it's all too common as they are a big outfit and they can rip off one customer, but there'll be more to come.
The Sutton bloke mentioned that there was one lady customer who was lured into taking her car to Kwik Fit with their discounts after failing the MOT at Sutton. Then, he told her what to do, basically, for not letting Kwik Fit sharks to take her for a ride. She came back to him after having all the repair work done at Kwik Fit, telling him that they did do everything that the Sutton bloke told her not to let them do (changing things that didn't need changing, etc). The shocking thing was that with all the discounts added to the bill, it still came to 20% more than he quoted her!!
So, I have learned my lesson-it's often better to go to your local garage! However, I won't drop it here. I will write to Nationwide Autocentre for my money back! Watch this space!!!!0 -
if it makes you feel any better, having it serviced at that centre might have invalidated the warrenty anyway.
to be fair they should advise you of that, but I doubt they did or would.
But then you shouldn't go to these idiots either ...
Glad you got it sorted out ok Nobby!!Genie

Thank you Genie. I shall do, though I had not sent the transfer of warranty notification back to the manufacturer as I'd forgotten about it. Of course, if those at the Nationwide Autocentre garage had been more professional, they would have reminded me of it. Let's face it, it must have been obvious from the registration number that my car was under three years old then, if nothing else.0

Most of us have probably been in the same situation Nobby and you live and learn from it.
I got burnt off Kwikfit some 18 years ago with my first car and they took the michael when all I needed was brake pads. I have never been to one of those places since and never will again. I have also warned enough people off Kwikfit to have more than evened the score!! Their name is trash too may, but a new motorist is born every second, so they are never short of people to scam.
The moral is avoid the big auto centres like the plague because enough people will tell you they cannot be trusted to do an honest job for an honest price, as they are chasing targets and profit with gimmicks and schemes. You are just seen as a punter and someone with cash to be extracted.0 -
