  • If you're looking for fairtrade clothing at a good price (not people tree - eek!), try Nomads and/or Black Yak. I've bought from both and they're very good. They are both Google-able.

HDRA do an adopt a veg scheme and a few years ago I bought my dad a year's adoption of something funny that had his name in it. He got a certificate (which was his birthday present from us).

Elderly parents/grandparents who have everything they need are really hard to buy for but this one really hit the mark with him when he opened the prezzie - I hadn't seen him laugh and laugh like that for years. It was brilliant. It gave him a joke to share with his friends too.

has the list of veg currently up for new adopters. I think it costs £15 per veg.

We did the Gift of sight, adopt a child in another country ... this year I am thinking of an organic veg box for my dad who is a keen cook, and previously grown his own but now lives between his flat and camper van!

If you're after ethical chocolate etc then don't get too fixated on "fairtrade" - that's only one brand name. I adore Hotel Chocolat chocolate, they have their own scheme which they call Engaged Ethics, they're actively involved in projects to help the cocoa farmers they buy from (mostly Ghana & St Lucia) increase production, as well as guaranteeing to pay above market rate, and have their own cocoa plantation as well in St Lucia where they're building a factory to convert the cocoa into chocolate &hence add the value locally.

if you want clothes for under 6s/breastfeeding mums then www.ilovefrugi.co.uk is well worth a look, some lovely clothes (inc cut4cloth for under 2s) which are organic, fairtrade & they give 1%turnover for planet etc as well.
