Iceland PM in Press Conference

Just seen on BBC there will be a press conference in two hours with the Iceland PM, lets see what he is going to say ?

Yesterday he told the cameras they would cover the first £16,700 then today we hear from London they wont so the UK Government is going to help the savers.

He must be responding to this.

From what I understood him saying yesterday, he was referring to covering the first £16,700 (or however many Euro) for Icelandic savers (only). The wording seemed to be carefully chosen to be deliberately ambiguous as to what would happen to UK Icesave customers.

Will be interesting to see what he has to say now though, especially after the UK govmt have made it clear that they will pursue Iceland's assets if Iceland defaults on their compensation scheme to UK savers.

Interesting to hear him say yesterday that Iceland had been looking for "new friends" to help them out following disappointing responses from various countries. Guess the queue was pretty short..

He was very specific about the savings being covered fro domestic savers only, yesterday.

Drop a nuke on Iceland. Failing that, the government should cease every Icelandic asset in the UK with immediate effect (if they haven't done already). Iceland have effectively cut themselves off from the world after this.
