Whilst genuinely overjoyed for those misguided savers who will now be saved from any financial loss I fail to see why the current government should be rewarded.

I repeat, this was the right thing to do. .

I agree. I initially thought your post was another inflammatory "you icesave savers are idiots" but it is very succint.

We were misguided by the information available.

The Government has done the right thing.

All in all they deserve no praise for having taken the correct course of action!

Nothing has changed, he has only given a verbal guarantee!
And he will have to sue government of Iceland to get the money!

    Wrong.

    1. We have gone from the uncertainty of not knowing where our first £16000 odd will come from, to a verbal guarantee from the Chancellor of the Exchequer. I would say that changes much.

    2. Where did you conjure that up from?

Get in the real world...nothing has changed it is only a verbal statement..it is not law that the first £16000 will be returned. FACT.
People are kidding themselves and need to look at the detail of what is happening. UK tax payers are recapatilising the banks but we will have no representation on their boards...just amazing beyond belief. I deal with written facts and not verbal statements which mean nothing until passed in law!

I'm pretty sure he will borrow the money, pay us, then sue.
It could take years for iceland to pay back that money.

Exactly. And going by a few posts on here you can feel the animosity of some who are openly seething we are getting our money back.

There is zero chance of Darling going back on such a promise made such as this as it would be political suicide.

This is the only hope ... but I can see it taking a long time.
