Best risk/reward ratio (ie. no risk)

Hi,

I'm just wondering what accounts are recommended from the most secure (if there is such a thing...) organisations at the moment? I'm talking NS&I, Northern Rock, HSBC, Bradford and Bingley (?) level of security here.

I know I'm just being overly paranoid, but I've just been hit by the Icesave thing, so don't fancy transferring into my other savings accounts (Kaupthing, Principality, Halifax) as I have absolutely no idea how secure they are.

Cheers

Damn, can't edit the title - I'm after savings accounts by the way.

I kinda figure this'd be useful for other people too - I just want to start squirrelling away some money into an organisation I can have 100% confidence in.

I know what you mean - same here. I want to have money somewhere I can get to quickly now, rather than abroad.

NS&I, NR, HSBC, B+B and LTSB are by far all the safest, if such a thing exists!

Thanks, just had a look on Finance Markets and they recommend Nationwide and the Co-Operative too, so we have a few choices :)

I'm so tempted to go with HSBC if I'm honest, because they have such a good rep, yet the interest rate !!!!! in me is also a little tempted by B&B and A&L. :F Working it out, the difference will only amount to a few hundred a year, but still. /o\

Quick bump please, can't decide between:

    HSBC (5.25% with withdrawal penalty)
Bradford & Bingley (6.51% no catches)
Alliance & Leicester (6.60% with withdrawal penalty)

    I'd really appreciate any advice/recommendations - thanks

I am with First Direct so will probably stick with them and have money where I can access it quickly
