Recommend a SMALL sized multivitamin?

I have tried quite a few now, can anyone recommend a SMALL mulitivitamin? Or one that they find easier to swallow.

Or even just a compact vitamin D tablet - it's that time of year again.

I hate having to swallow big lozenge sized tablets. Not worried too much about the cost, as long as they go over easy.:D

Thanks in advance, lovely people of MSE:beer:

  • How about a liquid multibitamin?? I know they make them aimed at children - would that be more paletable?

Carlson's 2000iu or bio-tech 5000iu both tiny and easy to swallow. Dr Davis swears by the Carlsons. Dr Cannell uses the Bio tech. In Wisconsin Dr Davis find on average women need 5000iu/d while men need 6000iu/d to reach 60ng or 150nmol/l. Wisconsin is further south than UK (lat 42 approx level with Madrid) and they fortify milk/cereals with D.

Sunlight is only useful when UVB reaches the ground. when your shadow is longer that you are tall the angle of the sun is such that there is too much upper atmospheric pollution for the UVB to travel through to enable effective amounts to reach the ground. So from the end of September through to March there is no point in laying naked in the sun from the Vit d perspective.

Even in summer, when UVB is available the average UK adult has a status WELL BELOW the amount needed to absorb optimum amounts of calcium from food. We average 50nmol/l we need 80nmol/l so 1000iu/daily is needed by everyone throughout the year just to reach first base. To cut incidence of cancer/MS/diabetes and a whole host of other chronic conditions we need 150nmol/l that means we need to raise status 100nmol/l and that requires at least 4000iu . In practice in Wisconsin Dr Davis finds it takes the average woman 5000iu and 6000iu/daily for men.
In the UK I use 5000iu/d BUT I also being retired and having a large garden I am able to get full body sun exposure at midday whenever possible.

I don't take a multivitamin/mineral tablet too many synthetic vits in them. I eat eggs every day.

Eggs help weight lossbut I use full cream milk skip the toast and fry in coconut/olive oil or butter.

I take Sainsurys Multivitamin plus iron. The tablet is 9mm (which when written down sounds HUGE!) but actually it's quite small.

Morrisons vitamin/supplement tablets have an 'actual size' picture on the back of their packs.

Dr McCleary in his book The Brain Trust Program Says the following
"Do NOT take iron supplements or multivitamin/mineral preparations containing IRON UNLESS prescribed by your physician to treat documented iron deficiency. If lab tests show you have an excess of iron then get rid of it by donating blood at the next blood donor session." Iron is a pro oxidant and wreaks havoc in your heart and brain if you have an excess of iron.

I have low heamoglobin at present (as tested by the Blood Service) and cannot donate again until my Hb count goes up again, hence the supplement to bring me up to acceptable levels.

Thanks everyone, :D I've ordered some of the ones Ted suggested, and found a $5 off voucher too, through Ted's referral site ( I found it by accident via googling!!) I'' let you know how easy I find them once they arrive.

9mm is nearly half an inch long!! I do look on the backs of some packs - Tesco do the same - and some of them look like a tablet more fit for a horse!!:rotfl:

Glad I asked now, I had a free giggle from thinking what the neighbours would say if I sunbathed starkers.:o

  • My OH can't swallow any size tablet, so he buys Barretts chewy multivits. They are just like fruit pastells.

We usually buy them cheaper in Home Bargains or Savers.
