Can't you tick the box "automatically detect settings"? From the top of my head, I can't remember fully if that is all you'd need do, as networking isn't my strongest field.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

i cant auto detect because its part of a seperate network and one of the other computers couldnt recognise it on autodetect so had it fixed ip but i think the dns settings need to be filled in and dont know what they were before i deleted them

Can't you look at settings on another pc in the office?

It's hard to say without more info, because company networks vary quite a lot, often with proxy servers that intervene between users and the outside world.

In a simple setup the DNS Server and the Default Gateway should be the same address. However, even my home network isn't that simple - with a hardware firewall that means that the two are not the same!

Although you say that the last suggestion from Airwolf1 is not possible, it's the best way to solve the problem. Either that or use your social engineering skills on a company Tech Support person...

the office pc and epos are wired
i can connect to eops sysyems now but not the internet
  • How we run our epos system is on a sercure Vlan and static IP addresses which is internal only. Do you use a dual nic?

    In the TCP/IP properties put
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

They're the addresses for the DNS servers at OpenDNS.com and are free to use. They're better than most ISPs and weren't vulnerable to the DNS poisoning attack that was doing the rounds recently.
