UK Bank Shares fall

Hmm, hardly dare watch the news these days!!! Latest gloom and doom is UK bank shares have fallen sharply today.

HBOS 41.5% down
RBS 39% down
Lloyds TSB 13% down
Barclays 9.25% down

A 50b financial rescue plan to be announced tomorrow - all funded by us taxpayers of course. If it stabilises the financial markets it has to be a good thing right? What are your opinions

HSBC up 2.15%. It's not all bad for UK banks right now. Personally I see it as more a lack of confidence than anything fundamentally wrong with the big players. If we just had a media blackout of reports on banks, we'd probably be fine, but it's all the shifting from one organisation to another that's causing problems at the moment (in my opinion, anyway). A bank cannot carry on business without its deposits, and deposits are going haywire at the moment!

Hmm that works out approximately at £1000 for every person in the UK.
That's a fair bit of dosh on top of the other handouts ;)

    Will it work? Who knows?
It will keep the bankrupt system responsbile for the mess in power, it that a good thing?

I would want big changes for a start, no big salaries or bonuses for the bosses, they are effectively recieving social security are a humongous rate.
They used to be able prehaps, to justify their huge salarys, not any more, if they were
paid by results they would owe money to the shareholders.

I just looked at how much the directors of HBOS paid themselves, it is hard to believe it amounts to £13 million total. And that's not including pensions, they will be
recieving about 1/2 a million pounds a year each in pensions!!!!
There are pages and pages on their pay, an endless list bonuses etc....

They should be made to pay it all back.

It would be better to let the banks go to the wall.
