I imagine it's no skin of JL's nose if it loses money on seasonal stock? ie. Xmas paper, Hampers etc?
Think your right about the seasonal stock. My brother placed an order on Saturday afternoon for wrapping paper and it came today. However, me and my dad placed orders in the early hours of Saturday morning and although they were saying dispatched on Saturday afternoon none have arrived.0 -
It looks like they've now updated their system as I've tried to use the code again under a new account and it states that "this code has a minimum order value" (helpfully it didn't say what the minimum is).
I tried to order the gift wrap at £5.00.Quidco ~ £3,718 | Greasypalm ~ £354 | Freefivers ~ £45 | Pigsback ~ £260 shopping vouchers + 15 CDs
Total cashback / freebies / money-saving: 2006 ~ £3,961 | 2007 ~ 3,610 | 2008 ~ £4,159 | 2009 ~ £1,449

Just tried to order the wrapping paper too...Said I hadn't exceed minimum order value...oh well.A fine is a tax for doing wrong. A tax is a fine for doing well.0

As far as i'm aware it's perfectly acceptable to use the code since they've not actually told me not to use it or that it's not valid.
I'm absolutely sure that they would happily make £7 profit on each sale - so i don't see why i should abide by any different sort of moral code.
They're not an evil company though. They're owned by their staff and they take a cut of the profit each year, not some ananymous shareholder.
They hadn't actually told you you failed "security checks" when you first bought it either, and they won't be getting £7 profit from your giftwrap or lamps!
Gucci sell their clothing for hundrerds of pounds, but you don't steal from them because of it0 -
I to ordered £8.00 worth of napkin rings yesterday and got an email today saying the order had been cancelled as my details had "failed security checks"Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0

If you want a genuine bargain, go along to the John Lewis Clearance Sales they do at every store twice a year - sensational !!! John Lewis are a fab company, and really push the limits to try and please the customer, no I don't work for them, but I know for sure that they look after their staff as well as their customers!0

 if there was the possibility of getting money off their products because they were foolish enough to issue a discount code without any checks or safeguards then there's no way i wouldn't!
From their website (johnlewispartnership.co.uk):
"John Lewis Partnership Interim Results for the Six Months Ended 30 July 2005"
"Operating profit up 2% at £132 million
Profit before tax down 3% to £78m"
And you want me to feel sorry for trying to get a discount of £7 off an order!
You're having a laugh!
This site is surely about getting the consumer a better deal - a better deal for the consumer may result in less profits for the business, which i cannot see as a bad thing.
As for your earlier comment that i'm abusing their goodwill - actually i was creating £7 worth of goodwill (on my behalf towards John Lewis)0 -
i also bought wrapping paper using the code and it came today....nice one
and no i'm not stealing......Envy is the most stupid of vices, for there is no single advantage to be gained from it.:A0 -
