Where has my DVD Drive gone?

Evening All,
I have recently purchase a new Sony Vaio Laptop and I cannot get any DVD or CD's to run. I created some recovery disks a couple of days ago but have logged on today and cannot get the laptop to read any discs. I have gone to My computer and cannot even find where the disk drive is???
Can anybody help?

If you uninstall the drive from device manager, windows should find it when it boots up. That's how I got round this once anyway.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0
