Fire installers

Got my new fire several months ago, but I've had real trouble trying to find someone to install it.
Crap thing is it's not a difficult job, just need a Corgi guy to connect the pipe work.
I've literally called about 15+ Corgi heating installers in my area and only one of them was interested and then he could only do it on the odd weekend when he's free but he never showed up and doesn't seem bothered any more as he's "very busy."
They all say "it's not really the thing I do" or flat out refuse and can't recommend anybody.
Shops that sell fires charge a small fortune £250+ where as I've told by several heating installers that it shouldn't really be more than around £100.
I'm thinking I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and be seemingly ripped off by a main fire place dealer.
Anyone able to suggest anything.
Could I fit it and just get a Corgi guy to connect the pipe work or is that against regs?
I'm in Herts btw

You need to be qualified to do gas fires. My heating and plumbing guy isn't.
If you go through a local fireplace shop, they use self employed guys that should come out and quote you. I don't see why they would charge more than anyone else would. I had two quotes for my fitting and they were broken down into what cost what.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I do know you need to be Corgi registered to do gas fires, I was just questioning how much can be done by someone who isn't.
Just like some people do some of the work when fitting a new boiler but get a Corgi guy in to fit and connect the gas work and certify it.0 -
Speaking as the wife of a Corgi engineer, the reason you are having trouble finding an engineer to fit a fire could be because of the make/type of fire ie if its a flueless fire there are not many engineers who would fit it, or the reason why we are not over enthusiastic about a fire fitting job, is because a lot of the time people buy the fire just because they like the look of it and when we go round to give a quote it is not the right type of fire for the fireplace, or the fireplace/chimney is not correct, and the customer needs to get a lot of work done in order for us to be able to fit the fire, and it costs a lot more than the customer thought. At the moment we are dealing with a customer who just wanted us to fit a fire and so far we have been to his house twice and had a number of phone calls and have not received payment for this. This is why it is better to deal with the people selling the fire and get their people to fit it and if there are any problems with the fire they can come back and deal with it, as if you had bought the fire and someone else fitted it and there was a problem with the fire (not the way it was fitted) the customer is normally not willing to pay the fitter for his time to come back and say that there is a problem with the fire. Hope you can understand why you are not having much success.
The only straightforward fitting job is if the fire is exactly the same as the existing one, and in that case should be around £55 to fit.0 -
There's a guy on here who goes by the name (check the member list):

Who I believe has a fireplace shop in Herts, you could try sending him a PM and see if he can offer any advice.

I paid just over £200 to have a fire installed, there was a lot of work involved and I think the price was fair.
I daresay I could have gone down the pub and found several people to tell me "that it shouldn't really be more than around £100" - both before and after the event.
