Generic website advice

IMO some of the generic "advice" given on this site can be really dodgy.
Seems some members of the public take it as "mum" and then sadly put 100k into a single savings account.
Again IMO anyone with 50k+ to invest really needs independant advice.
Spreading the risk is one of the first things a decent adviser will think of.

I really hope this site helps out some of the registered members who lose money because of the icesave issue.
Unless I'm mistaken money has been earn't by clicking through to these sites..
Do the right thing and put it to one side for either a fighting fund or some kind of help to the genuine losers.

If Iceland can't afford to help the genuine losers, what is the likelihood of this website being able to?

Some links will generate some small commission. Others won't. Martin has never prejudiced against suppliers that don't offer commission on this site in order to remain as neutral as possible.

However, the cost of running a site like this likely takes up the vast majority of the income generated from the affiliate links. A site like this needs the webspace to hold the database of posts (large), the licence for the software and the bandwidth to allow hundreds of thousands of users a day to access the site with minimal downtime. This costs a lot of money in itself, and is unlikely to leave much money to form a fighting fund for those who essentially ignored the suggestion to keep savings totals within the compensation limits.

    Sad, but true...

    1. This site has, for as long as I've been on here, informed people they should not invest more than £35,000 in any one account (rising to £50k today) except at their own risk.

    2. This site informed people for the last 7 or so months about the protection scheme for iceland and

    3. You are expected to do your own research before investing over £50,000 in one place anyway.
