Need advice please......

Hope i am posting this in the right place.
We brought a hoover from Argos in June this year its a VAX. The other week it broke  . The brush height adjustment has packed up. OH took it back to Argos to get it sorted but they said it is nothing to do with them, we would have to ring the Vax helpline which is an 0870 number and get them to sort it.
Is this right as its not even 6 months old.
Can anyone offer any advice please as i think its down to Argos to refund or get it repaired.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.

on a point of pedantry, what you bought was a VAX vacuum cleaner and not a hoover (Hoover make vacuum cleaners).

I'm surprised that Argos didn't want to help you... HWTHMBO used to work for them and says that they should have offered to repair the item, using details obtained from the store's "Dedicated Service List". Do you still have the receipt? even a credit card bill showing the transaction is sometimes enough as a proof of purchase.

the magic phrase you need is...
'The Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended)'.

and maybe this might help you....

look up the geographic number for VAX

I've taken stuff back to Argos before and exchanged without any issues. What I would do now, in your case, would be write to the Chief Executive's Office expressing your dismay, highlight the problems with the Vax, and the service at the store you went to.
Finally, after going on, add a comment suggesting £15 in Argos vouchers for the upset caused and the time and messing taking it back to the store and obviously that they would exchange it for you. Mention doing this would help restore your confidence in their company.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

They're not saying that they won't sort it out, customer has been given number to get VAX to come and sort it out.

Why do people expect retailers to simply give them a new one??

This bit does my head in. Does anyone really think the person reading this won't see right through it. I've seen this a couple of times before, no one believes it, they know what you're really up to!

Can I just say - ring Vax, they will do their utmost to help you and in the future just bypass Argos :)

I've got a Vax and its says on it you need to ring them if you have any problems and not to return it to the store you purchased it.

Normally it should be up to Argos to sort it out, as your contract is with Argos, but Argos are generally !!!!!!, so best try VAX first!! Try the non 0870 number(s) above!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

To me Airwolf, that is blackmail and you would be given short shrift.
