Southern Electric Price Hike- Superdeal!!
Options
Under Southern Electric's new tariffs (with an average 19% price increase from the end of August) the Superdeal tariff in our area has risen by closer to 30%.
When I asked Southern Electric about this they tried to defend regional variations in cost (which I don't understand) and the tariff's 'unique' features- basically that for those of us with all electric heating (and no choice in a rural area without gas) our water and storage radiators get a 2 hour charge in the afternoon to top them up. It's unique in as much as no other supplier offers an equivalent tariff- so switching suppliers for a better superdeal deal isn't an option! I hope this is the kind of thing that OFGEM will look into.
Does anyone have experience of moving from Superdeal to an economy 7 tariff (which can then be compared with other suppliers and switched)? I understand that the meter can be changed without cost but other changes to circuitry may be required...
Based on our electricity consumption for the last 12 months, economy 7 would now cost no more than Superdeal and at least we could look for a cheaper supplier. We'd lose that extra heat in the afternoon but would we notice? I don't think so...
