prepayment meter experts? standing charges?
Hi, I am helping my dad find a cheaper supplier for his prepayment gas and electric, he is with BG for gas and eon for electric. On his electric bill it says his "standing charge" is 20.86p/day but his meter takes 35p a day. is this a case of one charge being wrong somewhere or is this two different standing charges, one of which doesnt get put on the bill? (like a meter rental?) I was thinking about recommending he change to ebico but Im not sure if this is the cheapest option anymore? I worked it out he'd be £100 better of over a year with ebico,(just for electric) but now Im not sure if my calculations are correct as Im not sure about this "standing charge/s" I have done a search but I couldnt find the answer to this one or two charges question. I think his gas charges 35p a day too. can anyone with some knowledge of this help? thanks

I don't know if this helps but Scottish & Southern energy have dropped their standing charge for prepayment customers.0 -
Have you tried using a comparison site? There's been a bit of change in what suppliers offer.
If you know how much your day uses in kWh for a year (do you have a read from about a year ago?) you can work out how much he'd be paying with each supplier.
Use the switch site results as a first approximation, and to get the actual prices per kWH and standing charges etc.0
