I've got sash windows but two of them need a prop to stay open and one of them needs the strength of Popeye to open it then it kind of twangs open and stays there ?!
Any ideas how this could be fixed, either by myself of roughly what it costs to get it done? Can it be done in situ ?!

Proper sash windows?
In which case the weights have probably become detatched/the cords have broken.
You should find that within the frame on each side, there is a panel, behind which the weights should be. Open the panel, sort out the weights/cords.
I bet a google will throw up some guides?0 -
