Car Insurance problem

Hi guys, hope somone can help?

I have just bought a car from a friend of mine. He had private number plates on and has now transferred back to old number plates. The tax disc has been changed, the MOT cert has been changed but we are still waitig for the DVLA to send the new regerstration document.

He got his new car last Friday so insured his old car on a 14 day policy (him as the only driver).

I am now trying to insure his old car online but get a error message from all companies saying "change date cannot start from" or similiar depending on which site I use. If I change the start date to after 18th October I can get through to pay for my policy. Is this due to the DVLA having not completed registration or is it due to the 14 day policy my friend has took out?

Any help gratefully received.

TIA

Solly

Do it online starting from today. You cannot buy insurance retrospectively whether online or by phone.

I would think it would be an insurance company problem as the DVLA records take up to 6weeks to update, and then the insurance companies have to get the info off DVLA which they do monthly/3monthly/bi-annually etc so it wouldn't be anything to do with the cherished transfer that has taken place.

It may be that they don't recognize the new registration mark, but then it would come up with a message stating that not what you've got.

As already mentioned it would be best to give them a ring to find out. It could be that you are using a sister compant to the one which he is insured with and they won't insure car twice?
