hi
My mate has just come round with an iPhone and managed to connect to my wireless network.
i told him that it was protected so couldnt have and he showed me and he was.
I opened wireless network connections and it shows the network with a padlock and says Security Enabled wireless network.
Im confused as to how this has happened.
Any suggestions? or to stop anyone else from enjoying my internet!?
cheers

On my o2 router the Wireless light is 'orange' when its secure and 'red' when its not.0

have you queried it with o2 broadband i know in your router settings there will be somewhere in there which has a drop down of
allow new devices and the options are
new stations are not allowed
new stations are allowed (via registration)
new stations allowed automatically it might have something to do with one of these options
i know on mine, my wii wouldnt connect unless i picked connect automatically the guy at o2 said it wouldnt compromise my security, but you now have me thinking i'll have to get someone to try and connect to my wireless see if it's secure or not :eek:0 -
I would check your security settings again and make sure that you "apply" them.
I have just configured my iPAQ to work with my O2 router and had to enter the full 128 bit passcode in, and register the device via the router to gain access.0 -
he could have connected to an o2 wireless box next door... my sister has o2 broadband, and there are at least another 1 or 2 routers that my iphone can pick up..
when i connected to hers (i renamed it) it did prompt me for a passcode...0 -
Make sure WPA is enabled and you don't use a default password.0

Other users have suggested changing the name of the network which is a good idea, when your friend connected to the wireless box what was the name of the netowrk0

as far as im aware mine is the only 02 box.
the only other network that came up (on iphone and laptop) was neighbours which says protected by WPA.:think:0 -
i don't understand how one device will see the network encrypted, and another device will see it unencrypted...
my iphone shows encrypted devices and asks for passwords all the time... odd.. very odd.. i think your mate might be having you on!0 -
i saw him disconnect and re select it from the list when he searched.
he couldnt get onto next doors though:think:0 -
had you ever given him your password previously, to connect?
iphones remember passwords etc for wireless networks, and will rejoin them when they pick them up...
simple solution
make sure
1 - you are not using a default SSID (network name)
2 - you change the password to someone you know, and is using WPA encryption.
then when he comes around again, he can't get on..0
