Well there you go. Worked all my life and saved the best I could. Didn't want to take big risks so kept away from shares and put my money (all £90,000 of it) - thanks Martin, that really was great advice.
Now can anyone cleverer than me answer the following question:
I opened my account on the 01/09/08 and made an error and instead of typing 30,000, somehow typed 90,000. I immediately telephoned Icesave to correct the error and they said that could write to them asking that they correct it.
Of course, I wrote 2 letters but never heard back from them. Does anyone know if I was entitled to a cooling off period???
Please anyone, even Martin who seems to be keeping a low profile I noticed!

You'll only get a maximum of 50k back if Iceland pays the first 16k of the compensation scheme.0

Martin is not to blame for you deciding to put your money in a particular bank, he supplied us with information and it was up to ourselves what to do with that information.
You didn't want to take big risks you say and yet made an error by clicking a 9 instead of a 3, with that amount of money I think I would have been concentrating a little more.
I hope you are able to get your money back, but please don't lay the blame at someone elses door.0 -
It's a shame a few have bashed Martin over this. Most have still enjoyed a good rate of interest for over a year from his advice. The money is still guarenteed; if you didn't want the hassle of claiming then you should have got your money out sooner. A bad workman always blames his tools!!
P.s. It's a shame Martin felt he had to defend himself today on LBC today; what a sterling job anyway!!0 -
how could he get his money out sooner?? if it was in a fixed rate bond, as many peoples money is,Icesave wouldnt allow you to access it or close down the bond. I have been trying to close my bond for 3 months but the terms and conditions didnt allow it. There is talk that icesave were aware of this situation months ago, but have still been freezing fixed rate accounts and taking new deposits. This all seems highly fraudulant ...0

I'm so sorry to hear this.
But while it's easy to pass the blame, you should have talked to an independant financial adviser when you have that much savings.
And you should have spread it across 3 banks at 30K each.
Still. I understand that this is an upsetting time for you. I hope this pans out well.
I also have some money with them, although no where near that figure.Savings
