suggestions for meals with haggis?

hi, we have haggis in the freezer we got reduced. i know the traditional meal is haggis, neeps and tatties, but dp hates turnip and not keen on mash. i don't think i like haggis but am willing to try it again.

wondered if anyone had any other suggestions?

  • Doon't think it's traditional, but I usually slice my haggis, remove the "skin" and fry the resulting rounds. I then enjoy them served with fried eggs, beans and chips! (Not healthy I know) but I love this as an occaisional treat. To be honest I've never had haggis any other way.
  • Hi all,

I think this might get more replies over on the Scotland board, so I'll move it over there ;)

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I like to slice a chicken breast lenthways(almost all the way through),stuff it with haggis, wrap the parcel with bacon and either roast or fry until cooked and serve with a cream and mushroom sauce. A big fav in my house.
  • We like chicken and haggis lasagne!

Heat the haggis up and spread it on the sheets of lasagne - layer with cooked chicken - make up sauce with 1/2 chicken stock and 1/2 milk and cook in the usual way - very tasty!

Use some to stuff in a chicken breast (as if you were making a chicken kiev), wrap in streaky bacon and cook in oven for 35 mins (or unitl cooked). Fry some sliced mushrooms, add a splash of drambuie, light the drambuie, when it's burnt out, add a splash of cream. Serve with new potatoes and green veg

Use it to make stuffing: Saute some finely chopped onion and a handful of herbs (sage and rosemary is good), add a handful of breadcrumbs and crumble haggis. Mix well and make inot stuffing balls.

Take the stalks out of some mushrooms and use the haggis to stuff the mushrooms. Dip in batter and deep fry (or dip in egg and then breadcrumbs) and serve with salad and garlic mayo.

hmm have got a haggis in the fridge think i might try the chicken kiev suggestion sounds yummy. I sometimes serve it as a starter on a bed of warm salad.
  • If your OH's main objsction is neeps involving turnip, change the neeps to something 'neepish'..........we use carrot and swede mash in this house, or you can do carrot and parsnip ;)
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

swede is turnip in Scotland, can't recall seeing turnips up here but not keen on them so maybe haven't looked!
  • You can batter it and fry it. We just cut the beast open and microwave it.

Haven't tried this, but I'm told haggis stirred into a chinese curry sauce and served over rice is delicious.
