Mothers return to work cash bonus?

My wife has been told that when she returns to work after maternity leave she will automatically get a cheque for £150 from the government, I've looked everywhere for something about this on 'the net' but can't find a thing, can anyone point me in the right direction. Also I have read earlier in the year about working mothers being given a £40 extra p/w, does anyone know if this has started yet? cheers

I might be wrong, and i apologise if i am, but i think that this mysterious money might be what they give you when you return to work after being on Income Support so as to bridge the gap between the end of your benefits and your first pay day. Might be wrong though."You don't always know where you stand, until you know you won't run away..."0

Thanks for the reply, you might be right but can't find a thing so guess we'll have to wait and see.0

£40 is for anyone returning to work after being unemployed for a large amount of time being on a means tested benefit, havnt heard of the £150 though.0

The £150.00 (or £250.00 if you are a lone parent or a couple) is for if you have been on benefits for 26 weeks.
The In Work Credit of £40.00 is for if you have been on benefits for 52 weeks.
Sorry but I don't think this will apply to your wife if all she has been on is maternity leave and presumably in receipt of SMP.0
